Any extension of a domain: i.e. my.domain.com is a subdomain of domain.com. Whoever registers the domain also gets all possible subdomains.

I guess that message about the subdomain having to propagate is wrong. It actually started working after about 10 min.

Subdomains need to propagate across the Internet just like regular domains. I didn't know you had to wait until I set one up and got the same message you get with regular domains.
