Many people like the ease of WYSIWYG ("what you see is what you get") authoring tools, which allow you to get your website up and running quickly without learning about FTP, HTML, etc.

Other people prefer to code their pages themselves, as they find that it gives them maximum control over their page's appearance, and maximizes customizability.
