How do I set up my Jabber client with DreamHost?
First, you need to create a Jabber user through our "Goodies > Jabber" tab at our web panel (and wait five minutes for the status to become active).

Then, it really depends on the client you're using, but typically these are the settings (assuming you've created a jabber user named me@mydomain.com):

username: me
  server: mydomain.com
    port: 5222 (typically the default)
Note you should NOT use "jabber.org" as the server (or any public server like that).

An update to my previous comment re: conferencing. Domains hosted by machines running woody need to have their conference server set to "conference.jabber.mydomain.com" and domains hosted by machiens running sarge need to use just "conference" for the conference server.

Here's how to get multi-user conference rooms working with DH's Jabber: set the conference server to "conference" instead of "domain.com" or "conference.domain.com" or anything else -- just "conference". You should be able to create rooms with that setting once you're logged into your DH Jabber IM account.
