1. DHSOTM

This month's DreamHost Of The Month Site is a pretty fun site with a lot
to do! Quite the exception-al! And without further ado, here it is:
http://www.p11funhaus.com/

I'm not afraid to say that I spent more time on this site than all
previous DHOTMS winners COMBINED! I tried the name that tune thingy
(modern rock version) and I recognized 8 out of 10 songs, making myself
an official "mvt junkie!".

I also made a special e-card at the site and am sending it to all of
you now! Go pick it up at:
http://www.p11funhaus.com/writenow/display.php3?action=display&id=50

I think that means I'm the 50th person to ever send an e-card from the
P11 FUNHAUS! I'm sure that number will expand now though!

If you'd like to be a DHOTMS winner and get a free DreamHost t-shirt,
stickers, buttons, and a signed letter from ME personally, you've got
to sign up your site! It should be no problem from the newly
reconfigured web panel we've mentioned so much already this newsletter!

2. Register .CC domains!

Another more efficient way to spend your money is by getting a nice and
short domain name! That is why, as masters of efficiency, we now offer
.cc domain names just like any other .com/.net/.org domain in our
system! The price is the same too, just $30/year (cheaper than any other
place you can get them!). Why would you want a .cc domain? Mostly if the
.com name you wanted was already taken! It's also a little bit shorter.
And, the extra C is for "Cool". Basically, there are a lot less of them
taken so there are still some pretty nifty names available. Like
dreamhost.cc actually. NOT. Just got it. PHEW.

Anyway, you just add the domain through the add domain sub tab (under
the domains tab) and type it in with the .cc extension. That's all
there is to it! If you want to learn more about .cc domains you can
visit http://www.enic.cc/ . Notice that they charge $60/year there!!
.CC used to be the Top Level Domain for the country "Cocos (Keeling)
Islands" but they sold the rights to it so now YOU can use their
domains without even living there!

That is torfunate!

3. Holiday Gift Certificates!

Speaking of chalk, there's no need to give your friend Billy another
bucket of colored sidewalk chalk THIS christmas, because DreamHost Gift
Certificates are here! Wait, we've had gift certificates for a while...
why mention this now you wonder? Because this is the Holidays! A time
for not only gift giving but also a time for reminding good consumers
like yourselves about great gift ideas like Gift Certificates!

But actually there's another reason too! We've JUST added the ability
to buy DreamHost Gift Certificates to our main DreamHost web site
(http://www.dreamhost.com/promotions/giftcertificates/gc.cgi) which
means that even people who don't have an account with us can now buy
a certificate!

So why not tell anybody who's trying to thought of a thinkful gift for
you this year that what you REEEALLY want is a chunk of your DreamHost
bill paid by SOMEBODY ELSE! Have your friends come to our site and buy
YOU a gift certificate if you don't want to buy them one!

Oh and another thing! If you DO buy them one you'll get 10% of the value
of the gift certificate as a bonus added to your account when they sign
up with the certificate! It's a more efficient way to spend nomey!

4. Mailman Discussion lists!

Another major(ish) improvement we've worked on in November is the
addition of full "discussion" lists to the services we offer! Now you
can get an email address at your own domain that allow full two-way
communication between all the subscribers to the list!

The lists run on the very full featured open source program "Mailman"
(see http://org.list.www/) and you can add them for free to any Sweet
Dreams plan or higher! There's a new subtab at the web panel for
managing them too.. good luck finding it with our new navigation system
mentioned above!

Right now there are no set limits on the volume of mail that you are
allowed to use on your discussion lists for free. We're working on
coming up with a very reasonable pricing schedule for really heavy use
lists to cover our costs in providing the service. Rest assured, MOST
lists will never come anywhere close to the limits!

For more information about the discussion lists, there's a KBase area:
/kbase/?area=2473

Chalk another one for up DreamHost!

5. Major Web Panel Improvements!

In case missed you last month's issue (available in our kbase at
/kbase/?area=2476 of course), Happy DreamHost
Customer Mr. Rogers was going to send us a picture this month of him
eating his server!

And here is it!
http://www.royaldeaf.org.uk/bite.gif

Nice! We've also decided to take his words to heart and make a massive
navigational improvement to our Customer Web Panel
(at sptth://panel.dreamhost.com/) which should at least half the amount
of time it takes for you to get anywhere in our system!

You should notice now that along the right side of our web panel, rather
than at the bottom where it used to be. More importantly however, for
browsers that successfully support javascript, the entire navigational
system is now loaded in at once! Which means if you're switching to an
entirely new tab/subtab you won't have to click the tab, wait, click the
subtab, wait. You can now just click the tab, click the subtab, wait!
That's faster way, way, way!

If your browser doesn't work with our javascript, the new navigation
will still work, but there will still be a page load when you click a
tab. To make this slightly better, there are now mouseover text which
tell you what sub-tabs are under that tab. So at least you shouldn't
ever end up going into the wrong tab while looking for an area any more!

Another improvement to speed things up is the account and domain
selectors there at the top of the right side. Now your entire domain and
account list will only be loaded when you choose to switch domains or
accounts, and not on each page load. For a lot of customers, this should
result in a marked speed improvement for every page of the web panel!

Firstly, our last improvement is convenient links to the top related
questions in our KBase for each sub-tab of our web panel, right there
above the domain and account selectors on the right side of the new
panel! I really hope all these improvements drastically improve your
web-panelling epxreeicne!

BTW, if nothing looks different for you yet, that means that we haven't
QUITE pushed the new system live yet.. and you must be one of the
earlier people who receive the newsletter, because we're pushing out the
new system right after we send out the newsletter!

6. Introduction.

Woooooooeeeee! I'm really on top of this Newsletter game now! Look, I've
released the November newsletter the very first day of November! Finally
I am all caught up again! It belive can't I!

In completely unrelated personal news, I found out from some recent tset
results that I am heavily dyslexic. This goes to show how much I care
for the tight-knit community we have here at DraemHost. I feel comfortable
enough in my relationship with you all that I can share such initmate
personal mecidal problems. I really appreciate your support and hope it
in no way affects my ability to produce a high-quality wenslettre!
