DreamHost Partners With Hosting.com

For the past months DreamHost hasn’t been able to offer dedicated servers for new customers (apparently because of power capacity limits). They have now completely removed the possibility to sign up for a dedicated server and explains that they are “re-vamping their dedicated server product offerings” and that Debian Linux Servers will be available soon.

In the meantime they have partnered with Hosting.com to offer dedicated hosting, VPS and colocation services. On the DreamHost Dedicated Hosting webpage you will now find offers for Windows Hosting, RedHat, Windows and ColdFusion VPS and RedHat and Windows dedicated servers all managed and supported by Hosting.com.

All the offers include a 1-month-free promotional code.

I can’t really decide what’s the most surprising: To see DreamHost advertise another web hosting company or to see the words “Windows hosting” and “Windows dedicated” on DreamHost’s website.

I really don’t get it, essentially all dreamhost is providing is 1 month free off of Hosting.com already high prices.

I believe that DreamHost are justing acting as an affiliate here (kind of like their own affiliate program). Since they currently can’t offer any dedicated servers, they might as well try to earn $100-$200 in commission from Hosting.com.

Since a cheaper dedicated hosting provider would maybe be too good an alternative for DreamHost’s more expensive plans (and their own dedicated plans when they become available again), they’ve chosen one of the more expensive (and maybe more reliable) hosting providers.

Hosting.com has high prices? They are the quintessential budget server provider, and their prices are almost as rock bottom as the level of service they provide.

Partnering with Hosting.com is not helping to improve Dreamhost’s image or improve the quality of their offering.
