New DreamHost Status Page
The DreamHost off-network status page has been relaunched as a WordPress blog with a new layout at the old address status.dreamhost.com and on a new domain dreamhoststatus.com.
The site is hosted on a seperate network, in a seperate physical location, and will be used if an outage affects DreamHost’s possibilities to inform through the usual channels (the announcement page in the Control Panel).

And thus far it has proved useless. Last night when a large portion of their system was suffering outages, there was nothing said about it on the status page (I’m sure you got the email). Maybe because they were trying to do both things at the same time - finalizing the status page and fixing things.
I do however think that this is a great idea, as long as they use it!

Paul - The last email I got from DreamHost Announcement Team was about a “fairly major network outage” Wednesday the 12th. The issue was instantly reported on the old status page, but I didn’t get the email announcement before 35 hours later.
I think the problem is that you can hardly push out more than 100.000 emails (my guess) any faster, and that’s why DreamHost is starting to use the blog and rss feeds more actively.
We can both agree on it’s a great idea, and I believe it will result in more timely announcements.

I got an announcement rather soon, and i do beleive that Dreamhost uses a external program/service that can push out 100,000 emails almost instantly.

DreamHost now have some more info about the new status page in their blog.
The new status page is replacing the old announcement system in the panel and is equally replacing the email notifications of announcements.
